Before social media personal trainers relied solely on gym based marketing activities to promote their business and attract new clients. Although these are still important skills all personal trainers should hone and develop, in today’s industry the rise of social media provides personal trainers opportunity attract clients on a very large scale.

Check out these top 3 social media platforms for personal trainers:

1. Facebook

The most global social media platform with over 2 billion active users logging in every month, from its days as a popular friends network the platform has grown and now incorporates opportunities to share fitness, workout and nutrition content wit its users. You can now utilise Facebook marketing and create highly targeted marketing campaigns to attract your ideal clients.

Jamie Alderton has attracted over 135,000 followers to his Facebook page “@JayAldertonOfficial”. You’ll find online fitness and nutrition support via his page and Facebook group Grenade Academy.

Getting “online” simply requires a Facebook page and possibly a group that you can invite your clients to. Start small with your existing client base and members you meet in the gym, invite them to like your page to share advice and demonstrations. A group can provide invite only options to clients that are paying for a fitness plan delivered only via the group. Be sure to set up a professional page and ask your clients to like, comment on, and share your page with their friends.

 2. Instagram

Instagram is a sharing platform for video and images with now over 8 million active users. Terms such as “fitspiration” and “social media influencer” are a result of activity on Instagram from fitness enthusiasts and fitness professionals sharing their photos and video. Instagram uses hashtags which tag posts and users with similar interests will be able to locate your post. Searching for hashtag can also provide insight to how many times users have used a hashtag, the bigger the number the better the hashtag for reaching your desired client.

Joe Wicks “The Body Coach” has shown the fitness industry how to use Instagram when he first posted his “#leanin15 videos. 15 second video demonstration of healthy meals from his Lean in 15 fitness plan. With 1.9 million followers, Joe only came 21st on a list of the most influential social media stars, but he is the highest paid. Netting £12 million with up to 500 new people subscribing to his online Lean in 15 Plan, he is earning £33,000 a day.

Instagram works really well for fitness trainers, you can run an account from your phone and produce Instagram ready videos and images to share with your target audience.

3. YouTube

YouTube is not just for watching funny cat videos or Fail Army compilations. YouTube now has over 1.5 billion users with 8 out of 10 (18-49) year olds watching every day. Video is a powerful marketing tool, Facebook even moved to video with their Facebook live feature. Video gives you the opportunity to engage with your target audience and display your authority, expertise, and personality. People buy from people and video will help you build that relationship.
